1967 Ford GT40 MK IV No. 3 ~ Framed Print
This 1967 Ford GT40 MK IV No. 3 was photographed at the Shelby American Collection Museum aka “The Church of Shelby”! This GT40 MK IV J-car is known as the Andretti car and is chassis number J-7. It’s the final and most advanced version of the GT40 and was developed by Holman and Moody. Painted bronze with white stripes, J-7 was delivered from Kar Kraft to the Holman-Moody shops at the Charlotte airport in April of ‘67. Among the body modifications were vertical ventilation louvers in the doors, side window vents and caps over the brake ducts in the nose.
Bearing the race number 3, the car arrived in France for the 1967 Lemans 24 hour race on June 1st to make up the quartet of J-Cars, with three GT40 Mk IIBs as backup entries. The drivers were Mario Andretti and Lucien Bianchi and who had partnered in a GT40 at LeMans the previous year.
Number 3 did not finish the race after an early morning crash. The car was not raced again until the late 1990’s after it was restored by Bill Murray when it competed in vintage races at Daytona, Goodwood, Laguna Seca, Road America and Watkins Glen.
