What a Difference a Minute Can Make
Inspired by portrait photography and athletic competition, Before. After. is an athlete portrait series created at local events over the course of a season in Boulder, Colorado. Each athlete is photographed twice, before and after competing, against the same background with consistent lighting and a controlled studio-style setup.
The disciplined approach removes distractions and isolates expression, revealing the transformation that happens in minutes. Focus and anticipation give way to fatigue, grit and relief. Sweat, strain and emotion surface in plain view.
Originally photographed in the cyclocross community, the series is designed to expand across sports. It reflects the same precision used in commercial portrait photography and editorial portrait photography, capturing authentic human expression with clean composition and controlled light.
